Abashiri prison of the present which became famous completely by the movie "Abashiri extra area"
is in the modern building rebuilt in the 59th year of Showa.

The old building which has been used since Meiji is preserved as a "museum Abashiri prison"
at the foot of the Mt tentozan .

The prisoner of 23 years 1200 people Meijis as well was sent to Abashiri prison
first for the central road repairing.
Say that it was a battle with the grim geographical features and the bear about
the trip of the prisoner who advances

It was enforced in the day and night and line by the prisoner that the road repairing
of connecting Dohoh and Okhotsk
coast exceeded 1000 people.
A prisoner was the heavy labor of the (chain) with two people connected

didn't go well, and the deceased
appeared one after another by the malnutrition, the injury, and so on.

which nothing was even if it ran away successfully.
Dead prisoners are buried in the spot, and it is said to dead them that a chain was
put near the headstone in the mark.
So, it came to call it a "kusarizuka"
It proceeded with the work of excavating ashes from opportunity, the 30th year
of Showa eagerly.
At present, mourning monument and a tomb are being built.

out many victims in the occasion.
